The bombings - artist unknown

“We were on a family visit outside the city when the air raid sirens sounded. We all sat in the coal cellar, scared to death. I thought, ‘Don’t be scared, it’ll pass.’ Later, when we came back to the city we saw a scene we had witnessed before. The whole of shopping street the Demer had been swept away. The memory of Rotterdam bombing was still crystal clear. We compared the Eindhoven ruins to the ruins from Rotterdam and ours was not quite so bad. We could now feel what they had gone through. War taught you relativity.” - Joep van Rijnsoever
